Week 1 - Born: Position & Privilege

Born: Position & Privilege

Week 1 Born Supremacy – Ps Tony Cameneti

1 John 5:4 “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world …” (NKJV)

Definition: Born

·         brought into life by birth

·         having certain qualities or characteristics from the time of birth

Definition: Supremacy

·         the quality or state of having more power, authority, or status than anyone else – the state of

          being supreme

In the movie, Jason Bourne was originally David Webb. He was just a guy but went through a transformation. David Webb couldn’t fight like Jason; he couldn’t think his way out of impossible situations like Jason; he couldn’t run like Jason. But, David Webb had a new birth– and became Jason Bourne; then he could fight, run, think and do seemingly impossible things.

When someone is born again into the Kingdom of God, they are transformed and can do the impossible. However, without Jesus in our lives, we are just another guy, just another girl.

1 John 5:4 “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world …” (NKJV)

Question: Why is a new birth needed?

Answer: Man is without God until he is born again

What is Man WITHOUT God

1.       Dead in our sins

Eph 2:5 “Even when we were dead in sins …” (KJV)

A person may be alive physically, but dead spiritually

2.       Spiritual understanding darkened

Eph 4:18 “Having the understanding darkened …” (ESV)

3.       Alienated and without hope

Eph 4:18 “… being alienated from the life of God …” (ESV)

Eph 2:12 “In those days you were living apart from Christ. You lived in this world without God and without hope” (NLT)

4.       Lost our position

Luke 4:5-6 “And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will” (ESV)

Adam and Eve originally had the authority that the devil is talking about. Their sin handed their position and authority over to the devil.

5.       Fallen short of God’s glory

Rom 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (ESV)

All mankind lost their glory and elevated position of authority when they handed it to the devil

Summary

·         Without God, we are spiritually dead in our sins

·         Our spiritual understanding is darkened

·         We are separated or alienated from God

·         We are without hope

·         We have no position of authority

·         We have fallen from our place of glory and authority

Practical Effects

·         We can be influenced to do wrong by greater or lesser degrees

·         We are thinking from a de-throned place – which is a low place where we don’t see the root of

things (spiritually shortsighted)

·         We are not able to communicate with God

·         Even success with work and finances doesn’t bring eternal hope

·         The devil can dominate us – which is why bad things happen

·         The only glory we obtain is that of our own self – look what I did

Scripture That Sums It Up

Eph 2:1-3 “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience – among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind” (NLT)

God’s plan is to undo what the fall caused

His plan is to give us life again; to enlighten our understanding; to connect us back to Himself; and to raise us back up to our place of glory and authority

Two things God did for us

He made a way to restore us to our position and restore our privileges

Position and Privilege

Position: Where we are ranked in the chain of authority after our new birth

Privilege: Our benefits because of our birth into the Kingdom of God

Why Are Cities Built On Hills?

“Ancient people built on hills, not in the valley, because they could defend themselves better on high ground. On top of the hills they added high and large stone walls to make it even harder for their enemies to get into the city to kill or capture them or their families.”

Before airplanes and radar, the best place to build a city was on the top of a hill – because the people with the highest position always have the advantage.

Eph 2:5-6 “Even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (ESV)

Position       Birth into the kingdom of God first of all makes us alive together with Christ.

It is 100% by grace and we have no part in our new birth – except to believe.

This making alive with Him gives us back our authority

Privilege      We are also raised up and seated with Him.

This raising and seating gives us back our privileges – Kings sit on thrones

Week 2 - Supremacy: Seating & Ruling

Supremacy: Seating & Ruling

Week 2 Born Supremacy – Ps Tony Cameneti

1 John 5:4 “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world …” (NKJV)

We are born into God’s kingdom to be overcomers

Seating

To Seat

·         To install in a position of authority or eminence

·         To fix firmly in place

Seated

·         The place where something is located or based

·         A center of authority; a capital: the county seat

1. All Seated Together

Eph 2:6 “and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (ESV)

Everyone who confesses Jesus as Lord is raised together and made to sit together. We are all seated together with Him. None of us has more than anyone else.

2. Not Like a Yoyo

Do we go up and down from our seat because of our wrong conduct?

Eph 2:8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God” (ESV)

We don’t lose our seat because of our conduct

But we won’t use our seat while we are in sinful conduct Unknown Object

James 4:7 “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (ESV)

When our conduct is ungodly we (can and should) go boldly into the throne room to find mercy

(Heb 4:16

3. It’s a Free Seat

Eph 2:8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God” (ESV)

The seat is free to us; but very costly to God. We cannot earn the seat with good conduct; we don’t work ourselves up to our seat. We are placed into our seat by grace; our work springs forth from our rest in Him.

4. Work-Sit and Sit-Work

Heb 12:2 “Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfector of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God” (ESV)

Because God first loved – He obligated Himself to first work

Jesus was required to work before He sat. It reminded me of a quote from Watchman Nee (1903 – 1972):

‘But Christianity is a queer business! If at the outset we try to do anything, we get nothing; if we seek to attain something, we miss everything. For Christianity begins not with a big DO, but with a big DONE’

Christianity is rooted in the exaltation and seating of Jesus at God’s right hand

After Jesus took His seat, the world received an invitation for their seat.

Our ability to ‘do’ is dependent upon our willingness to ‘stay seated’

Sitting is a posture and position of rest. Jesus first finished and then He sat. We first sit and then we begin. Jesus worked before He rested; we enter His rest before we work.

Jesus SAT down AFTER He WAS finished – we SIT down BEFORE we start

Ruling

Rule and Ruling

·         An authoritative decision or declaration

·         Presently exercising authority or power

When: We rule now – here on the earth

We don’t have to wait on God; He doesn’t do our part.

Who: We only rule over what God promised we could rule over

We do not rule over each other. We cannot control someone else’s will. We are not dictators.

Hindrances to Ruling

i.       Not knowing who is responsible or behind the attack

o   If you think it is God, you won’t fight it

ii.      Years of fighting – I’m tired

iii.     Previous failures – I tried and it didn’t work

iv.     Lack of awareness or understanding of our responsibility to rule

‘If it is in the Bible, it is so. It’s not even to be prayed about. It’s to be received and acted upon. Inactivity is a robber which steals blessings. Increase comes by action, by using what we have and know. Your life must be one of going on from faith to faith.’  Smith Wigglesworth

The Basics for Ruling

i.       Read the Word of God

ii.      Consume the Word of God until it consumes you

iii.     Believe the Word of God

iv.     Act on the Word

Additional Thoughts

The longer we stay quiet, the longer we aren’t ruling. Whoever is talking is ruling.

I do not ask my body how it feels. I TELL my body how it feels!Smith Wigglesworth

Matt 8:9 “For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it” (ESV)

The centurion understood that his soldiers were placed under him and obligated to obey his commands. Once we are seated with Christ we are instantly elevated to the position over all our enemies. Sickness, for example, is an enemy; because sickness has been placed under us it is obligated to obey our commands.
