Don't Throw In The Towel

Don’t Throw in the Towel

Guest Speaker – Rev Col Stringer

Ephesians 3:13 “Therefore I ask that you do not lose heart at my tribulations for you, which is your glory” (NKJV)

Don’t lose heart     Don’t grow weary     Don’t become slack     Don’t become cowards

Don’t throw in the towel

v14, 16 “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ … that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man” (NKJV)

Paul was strengthened with might and infused with power.

v17 “that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith” (NKJV)

God deals with the heart. Some things cannot be understood by our minds alone. They are dealt with in the realm of the Spirit.

v16 “that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man” (NKJV)

Paul had a revelation of the grace of God and was filled with the Spirit and with joy. Peter brought the message of salvation which showed how good we are in Christ; Paul had the revelation that it is by God’s power (His grace). We are infused with this same power when we are filled with the Holy Spirit.

Mobile phones are awesome pieces of technology – but are useless if they go flat!

Inside us, in our spirits, are all the ‘apps’ that we need – healing, power … but, if we run down (become faint), the apps are not accessible. In order to keep our batteries charged and access the apps, we need to pray in the Holy Spirit.

Jude 20 “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit” (NKJV)

Paul tells us no to lose heart but to be infused, be filled, with the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 14:2 “For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God” (NKJV)

We can communicate with the creator of the universe – not through a priest or a secretary, but personally. When we speak in tongues we speak mysteries.

v4 “He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself” (NKJV)

We charge ourselves when we speak in tongues – like charging a battery. Tongues are languages. Research by Dr Andrew Newberg (Director of Research at the Myrna Brind Center for Integrative Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital) has indicated that the frontal lobe of the brain shuts down during meditation and the language centre also goes quiet. Our minds are not involved in the process when we speak in tongues – only our spirit.

We cannot afford NOT to speak in tongues.

Genesis 11:6 “And the Lord said, ‘Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them’” (NKJV)

Nothing the people imagined would be impossible to them. This is the power of imagination and a group of people with one language where they were in one accord.

NB          The first miracle that the Holy Spirit ever did in people affected the tongue.

Zephaniah 3:9 “For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language” (NKJV)

On the day of Pentecost, God restored to the people a PURE language. And the people were in one accord and with one language. See this first in your mind, then speak in out in one accord with others – it will come to pass.

Isaiah 28:11-12 “For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people, to whom He said, ‘This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest,’ and, ‘This is the refreshing’” (NKJV)

There is a refreshing, a rest, for the people of God. Tension releases when we pray in the Holy Spirit. We go with His rest.

Matthew 11:28-29 “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (NKJV)

Come to Him. How do we do that? By praying in tongues in the Holy Spirit. Then, we will find rest for our souls.

Phases to Praying in the Spirit

There are 4 phases that we will experience as we pray in the Spirit:

  1. Boredom
  2. Head shuts down and peace sets in
  3. Creativity surfaces (messages and answers come)
  4. Wisdom of God comes

1 Corinthians 2:10 “But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God” (NKJV)

Any revelation of the grace of God comes through the Spirit of God. We need times of refreshing. Praying in the Spirit allows us to access the wisdom of God.

We do not have time NOT to do this!

Acts 3:19 “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord” (NKJV)

Repent – this radically changes the way you think – through praying in the Holy Spirit. It is not by works but only by believing and receiving. This allows us to come boldly to the throne of grace.

Times of Refreshing

These are times where we recover our breath. Pressures are coming. We cannot handle them in the natural. They restore our excitement and enthusiasm and restores us to our first love.

Don’t let your battery go flat. Learn to hear from the Holy Spirit for yourself (for finances, direction, etc). Don’t lose heart. Be filled with the fullness of God.
