MESSAGE – Full of the Right Stuff
God is the one who created/invented the concept of first
Matt. 5:24…first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
Matt. 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God…
Matt. 7:5…first cast out the beam out of thine own eye…
Mark 3:27…he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
Luke 14:28…sit down first, and count the cost…
Luke 14:31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sits not down first, and consults…
2 Pet. 1:20 Knowing this first…
2 Pet. 3:3 Knowing this first…
1 John 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us…
1 Tim. 2:1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people…
Interesting that Jesus instructed to wait – upper room – until you are endued with power
Luke 24:49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” (ESV)
Acts 1:4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; (ESV)
Acts 2:33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. (ESV)
- We celebrate Pentecost Sunday once a year
- What good is it – if we only highlight it once a year?
- We have the Holy Spirit in us ALL the time – it’s everyday
- Being filled with the spirit
I’d like to pick up where Patsy left off last Sunday:
- While Patsy was sharing a warning the Lord gave her…
- PIC of sewerage
- What we allow in – what we feed on – we become FULL of
Today:
- What Not to be Full Of
- Why and What to be Full Of
- Advantages of Being Full
- How to Get Full
What Not to be Full Of
1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.
1 John 2:17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. (ESV)
STORY: Back in early November…
Why and What to be Full Of
- Jesus – teaching, preaching, healing
- The works I do – you will do
- Dinner bell – salvations
We have people in the Bible who were full:
Luke 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
Acts 6:3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
Acts 6:5a And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man fullof faith and of the Holy Ghost…
Acts 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
Acts 11:24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.
Advantages of Being Full
- Jesus was full and He was led by the Spirit
- Acts 6:3 – they desired people to be full of the Spirit to serve – to appoint over business
- Acts 6:5 – Stephen was chosen to be over the business – He eventually became an evangelist – (know those that labour among you)
- Acts 7:55 – during physical persecution Stephen looked up and saw into the realm of the Spirit
- Acts 11:24 – Barnabas was full and much people were added to the Lord
Being full positions us:
- To hear – to do – to see – to be fruitful
One more on why to be full:
Zech. 4:6 Then he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of hosts. (ESV)
How to Get Full
STORY: How I got filled with Him and how wonderful it was
Smith Wigglesworth Quote: “The Lord will allow you to become very drunk in His presence, but sober among people. I like to see people so filled with the Spirit that they are drunk like the 120 on the Day of Pentecost, but I don’t like to see people drunk in the wrong place.
That is what troubles us, somebody being drunk in a place of worship where a lot of people come in that know nothing about the Word. If you allow yourself to be drunk there, you send people away; they look at you instead of seeing God. They condemn the whole thing because you have not been sober at the right time.
Paul writes, “For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God; or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.” (2 Cor. 5:13)
You can be beside yourself. You can go a bit further than being drunk. You can dance, if you will do it at the right time.
So many things are commendable when all the people are in the Spirit. Many things are very foolish if the people round about you are not in the Spirit.
We must be careful not to have a good time at the expense of somebody else. When you have a good time you must see that the spiritual conditions in the place lend themselves to help you and that the people are falling in line with you. Then you will find it always a blessing.”
One: I Simply Wanted to Worship
Note: What I didn’t do – go to church the following Sunday and say…man…we were worshiping at Mike’s house and this happened – you guys don’t even know what worship really is – you’re shallow – you need to have my experience…
Two: My Heart and Mouth Were Involved
- In order to be full – most of the time – (there is always an exception)
- There needs to be heart and mouth engagement
- Our hearts are IN it and our mouths and releasing…
NOTE: this year when we worship – lets ENTER in – have HEART and MOUTH engagement
Three: We Were Obeying Scripture
Eph. 5:17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.
Eph. 5:18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,
Eph. 5:19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. (NLT)
- I wasn’t seeking to hear, and I wasn’t seeking a certain task or thing to do
- I was seeking Him, and I was doing it because I loved Him and wanted to worship Him
- He greatly manifested
- I was so MUCH MORE aware of Him
Four: God Did the Rest
(we could say spiritual laws worked – because He said if we sing, pray, and worship – we are filled)
- None of us were expecting what happened to that degree
- The presence of God manifested in such a strong way
Let’s read this together:
Psa. 33:16 The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.
Psa. 33:17 The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue.
Zech. 4:6…Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of hosts. (ESV)
