How Do You Get to Heaven?

How Do You Get To Heaven?

Most people in the world believe in life after death, a spiritual realm of existence called the supernatural, and an all-powerful Being called God. Sure, there are a lot of different opinions, perspectives, and religions about these things, and some people prefer to not give it any thought at all, or just completely deny that there’s anything more to this life than what we can prove with science.

But assuming you’re one of those many people who believe, at least on some basic level, that there’s more to the universe than what we can see and prove, allow me to ask the very important and urgent question again: how do you get to heaven?

Well What Does God Say?

Heaven is kind of a God thing, so what does God’s Word (the Holy Bible) have to say about this question?

God says in the Bible that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

You. Will. Be. Saved.

Anything there about being good? Anything there about being baptised, going to church, giving time or money to charity, helping old ladies across the road or living clean & sober? Nope. Just two things, and one without the other is not enough, just as nothing extra is needed.

Do you believe in God? Do you believe He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to Earth as a baby to live and die as a human, the only perfect human Who ever lived? Do you believe Jesus gave his life willingly on the cross as a sacrifice for the sins of every person ever? Do you believe God raised Jesus from the dead?

If you can say yes to those questions, even if you want or need more information about any or all of it, then you believe in Jesus. But even the devil believes, and he’s not getting into Heaven…

What’s missing is calling Jesus, “Lord”. Calling Jesus your Lord means deciding to give your whole life to Him. It means following His teachings, and giving Him first place in your life.

He doesn’t want to give you a bunch of laws to follow. He wants to give you freedom, to break the chains of sin & sickness, and give you every spiritual blessing that the devil has stolen from you. He doesn’t want you to be religious. He wants you to discover the joy of relationship with your Creator. His ways are so much higher and better than our ways, our wisdom, our plans. They’re not always easier, and in fact you can bet the devil will not be happy you went from accidentally serving him to deliberately serving Jesus. But you can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you’ll never walk through this life alone, and most importantly, you can be certain you are going to Heaven when you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead. Calling Jesus “Lord” is not the end of your life, it’s the beginning of your eternal, overflowing with goodness life – here and now!

Jesus in your heart is your ticket to Heaven.

When you choose to believe in Jesus and call Him your personal Lord, you pray a simple prayer that goes something like this.

“Dear Jesus, I want the eternal life you came to offer me. I choose you as Lord of my life now. I believe God raised You from the dead. Please come into my life; come into my heart. Thank You for forgiving me for everything I ever did or will do wrong. Thank You for making me new, and coming into my life. Amen.“

You can put it into your own words if you prefer, because God isn’t looking for religion. He’s looking for real relationship between you and Him. Did you pray that prayer? Why don’t we pray it together now? Repeat these words out loud, loud enough so at least you can hear it, even if it’s under your breath.

If you just invited Jesus to be Lord of your life, congratulations! You have just been given spiritual life – you’ve been born again. It would be our pleasure to teach you more about this new life, about Jesus, and about Christian living. Please let us know below, so we can pray with you and explain what next. We’re excited about supporting and encouraging you in your spiritual journey!
