These damaged – brought wondering, doubt, even fear

Q: Is it possible that we know what God will do in certain situations?

I’d like to focus on:

STORY: Bible Study

The human race exhibits these traits:

hostile, cruel, domineering, deceitful, dishonest, untrustworthy, stubborn, unpredictable, impatient, unreliable, jealous, possessive, resentful, careless, irresponsible, quick-tempered, grumpy, moody, pessimistic, touchy

Even though people display these traits:

Questions to ask ourselves concerning hearing from God:

Today: When Can We Know What God Will Do?  (or won’t do?)

Desired Outcome?

Acts 26:28 Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You almost persuade me to become a Christian.” (NKJV)

Persuade: peitho; to persuade, convinced, persuaded, put trust in, sure, win over, won over.

Q: Is there a non-mysterious side of God-that lets us know what He will or won’t do?

My heart goes out to anyone who lives in a state of bewilderment

We don’t have to live in a state of never knowing what God will do “for us” and being afraid of what He will do “to us”

Those who live in this state of bewilderment – may have 2 things lacking in their lives”

Mark 12:24 Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God? (ESV)

It brings GREAT stability when our understanding of God’s character and His ways are Biblically balanced.

What we believe about the nature/character of God is of utmost importance. We are either growing in freedom or we are held captive by lies about God.

Here is a new phrase for this week:

When we know His Word (His will) and His Character it brings stability into our lives. No more wondering but confidence.

One: A Time When God Changed His Mind

Is. 38:1 In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, “Thus says the LORD: Set your house in order, for you shall die, you shall not recover.”

Is. 38:2 Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD,

Is. 38:3 and said, “Please, O LORD, remember how I have walked before you in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

Is. 38:4 Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah:

Is. 38:5 “Go and say to Hezekiah, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your life. (ESV)

In our covenant Jesus died for people with bad behaviour – the result of His death, burial, and resurrection is we preach to the sinners the good news

Our covenant is a measured amount of time where God is reconciling the world to himself through His Son Jesus – what God has done, is doing, and will do is laid out clearly in the New Testament

We are instructed to go boldly to God’s throne for mercy and grace to find help in a time of need:

The road of wrong choices isn’t a respecter of persons – if people choose that road, they get the conditions of road

Two: Times When God Couldn’t – (these could also be viewed as hinderances)

John 8:37 I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you. (ESV)

John 8:43 Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. (ESV)

Mark 7:13 thus making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do. (ESV)

Heb. 4:2 for we also are having good news proclaimed, even as they, but the word heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard, (YNG)

Mark 6:5 And He could not do any miracle there, except that He laid His hands on a few who were out of health and cured them; and

Mark 6:6 He wondered at their unbelief. So He went round the adjacent villages, teaching. (Weymouth)

Three: God’s Will Clearly Revealed

Num. 23:19 God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfil it? (ESV)

Jer. 1:12 And Jehovah saith unto me, ‘Thou hast well seen: for I am watching over My word to do it.’ (Youngs)

2 Cor. 1:18 As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been Yes and No.

2 Cor. 1:19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but in him it is always Yes.

2 Cor. 1:20 For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. (ESV)

Four: His Word – His Character – Our Response

NOTICE in the following scripture – we see…

1 John 5:14 And “this is the confidence that we have” TOWARD HIM, that “if we ask anything” according to his will HE HEARS US.

1 John 5:15 And “if we know” THAT HE HEARS US in “whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked” OF HIM. (ESV)

1 John 5:14 And we have an assured confidence that whenever we ask anything in accordance with His will, He listens to us.

1 John 5:15 And since we know that He listens to us, then whatever we ask, we know that we have the things which we have asked from Him. (Weymouth)

John 5:14 And how bold and free we then become in his presence, freely asking according to his will, sure that he’s listening.

1John 5:15 And if we’re confident that he’s listening, we know that what we’ve asked for is as good as ours. (MSG)

God desires us to move from “wondering if” to “knowing and acquiring what’s already ours”

Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny. – (Unknown)
