The word “change” has been stirring in me: “True Change”

INTRO: anyone who has been around for a while would recognise true change

Definition change – verb: “make or become different.”

Definition change – noun: “an act or process through which something becomes different.”

Thought: God changes things – people change things

Rom. 1:22 professing to be wise, they were made fools,

Rom. 1:23 and CHANGED the glory of the incorruptible God into the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of fowls, and of quadrupeds, and of reptiles.

Rom. 1:24 Wherefore also God did give them up, in the desires of their hearts, to uncleanness, to dishonour their bodies among themselves;

Rom. 1:25 who did CHANGE the truth of God into a falsehood, and did honour and serve the creature/creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed to the ages. Amen.

Rom. 1:26 Because of this did God give them up to dishonourable affections, for even their females did change the natural use into that against nature; (YNG)

RELEVANT: Loving the creature/creation – more than the creator

Article in the Guardian “Humans: the real threat to life on Earth”

Earth is home to millions of species. Just one dominates it. Us.

Our cleverness, our inventiveness and our activities have modified almost every part of our planet. In fact, we are having a profound impact on it. Indeed, our cleverness, our inventiveness and our activities are now the drivers of every global problem we face. And every one of these problems is accelerating as we continue to grow towards a global population of 10 billion. In fact, I believe we can rightly call the situation we’re in right now an emergency – an unprecedented planetary emergency.

Superstar actor Jason Momoa. Momoa, who spoke in front of the United Nations’ Small Islands Event on September 27, 2019 told world leaders that they were failing to do what’s needed to stave off climate change. But he didn’t place all the blame on them; he also made clear that humanity itself is “a disease that is infecting our planet.”

Rom. 1:25 who did CHANGE the truth of God into a falsehood, and did honour and serve the creature/creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed to the ages. Amen

Here are some changes people made: The Kings of the O.T.

1 Kings 11:5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.

1 Kings 11:6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.

2 Chr. 14:2 And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God.

2 Chr. 14:3 He took away the foreign altars and the high places and broke down the pillars and cut down the Asherim (ESV)

Changes God will do to our bodies:

1 Cor. 15:51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed…

1 Cor. 15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Phil. 3:21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

Those changes are our future:

Metamorphoo – used 4 times in scripture – to transform – change, transfigure, transform.

These three scriptures reveal transformation in 3 ways:

Matt. 17:2 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. (ESV)

NOW look where and how the word is used:

Rom. 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (NKJV)

2 Cor. 3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. (ESV)

Some other words for change:

alter, make different, become different, undergo a change, make alterations to, adjust, make adjustments to, improve, modify, convert, revise, recast, reform, reshape, refashion, redesign, restyle, revamp, rework, remake, remodel, remould, redo, reconstruct, reorganize, refine…

Practical Steps to Permanent Change

  1. Receive Jesus

John 3:3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

1 Pet. 1:23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;

1 John 5:12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. (ESV)

  1. Discover What Happened

Titus 3:4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Saviour appeared,

Titus 3:5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, (ESV)

  1. Begin or Continue to Renew the Mind

Rom. 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (NKJV)

What is hate speech? – to the ones making a big deal out of it – it is speech they don’t agree with – so they hate it – and call it hate speech”

  1. Process Things Through His Word

1 Pet. 1:14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, (ESV)
